1may2015 Friday_Labor Day. We left Changun’s keyless apartment at Daegu for Seoul at 10:30am by train. Passing women’s selling vegetables, lots of onions and sweet potatoes. At the crowded Seoul main train station, the price of a croissant and cake is $5. A short walk to Sinchon (New Village), we met Ashley at her small, clean and centrally located apartment.
2may2015 Saturday_ We walked over to Hongki university, surrounded by shops, cafes and restaurants. After the homemade lunch we visited the free market. Handcrafted goods accompaied by art and music. Seoul is filled university students, shopping and eating. At Hongdae we ate onigiri, listen to the buskers singing. A baguette is ₩2300.
3may2015_ Sunday We walked to the lovely Ewha Womans University. Entrance are shops, eating places and pretty people all around. Got some Bukchon noodle, dumplings ₩1250 and Burdock tea.
4may2015_ Monday At Bukchon Hanok, a traditional part of Seoul by subway. Walked up the hill and and tourists everywhere. A movie shooting going on as we were visiting. The popular TV series “Winter Sonata” the started the Hallyu was shot at the school here. Now, a popular tourist attraction. At the roadside stall, we tried grilled skewered tough octopus. At home, we got a tray of mixed sweet and spicy seafood came with a packet of sauce, tossed in vegetables, rice, out came a tasty meal for 9000 won.
5may2015_ Tuesday chillaxed at home. R went to a cats roaming Table A cafe.
6may2015 _Wednesday chillaxed at home.
7may2015_Thursday We went to City Hall by bus, walked toSeoul Metropolitan Library. Deoksugung palace and National Museum Modern Contemporary Art. Interesting art display and cultural performance. Tried out this recommended huge plateful of Bongchu Jimdak, spicy broiled chicken, vegetables, potatoes, clear cellophane noodles at Sinchon.
8may2015_ Friday walked South Sinchon aimlessly. Rested at a tiny park. Stopped for huge red bean bao. R bought ₩1000 coffee, turned out it is ₩1000 off the price. For ₩10,000, the roadside ladies gaves us 6 fresh huge apples.
9may2015_ Saturday subway to Jamsil where the sparkling Lotte mall is. Beside is the Lotte world theme park with a lake and the well used park. The mall court served bibimbap and octopus rice ₩20000. Grocery stalls here are well-stocked.
10may2015_ Sunday went up Maksan overlooking Seoul by subway. Passed by Seoul University, open air market and was entertained by a puppet show. ₩6000 meal_ tonkatsu and battered fried shrimp, squid and vegetables at the local eatry. Simple, fast, tasty and priced right.
11may2015 Monday_ tracking to Northern part of Seoul. It started to rain. Like Korean juicy mussels, seafood tray from our neighborhood store. R rented wifi egg from Ash.
12may2015 Tuesday_ After an hour bus ride from Sinchon, made it to Seongdong. It was windy and chilly we ascended Munsusan with good markers. Met a few local hikers, Reached the top overlooking the river that divide North and South Koreas. Our lunch at the hill start point was excellent. Just the two of us in the huge restuarant. Hampered with languague barrier, we both had the same heavily sauce ladened tonkatsu ₩1400. It came with coffee. By bus we returned to Sinchon.
13may2015 Wednesday_there is a Wau neighborhood park, locals used the fitness machine and play bochee balls. In the evening we hanged out with youngsters letting off steam in Hongdae.
14may2015 Thursday_A few miles to Yonsei university campus, onto Ewha university. Cranberry and green tea cream bagels, tea, coffee ₩1000 at Ehwa Uni entrance after the long ardous walk. I made smoked duck and mixed colorful rice for lunch.
15may2015 Friday_Subway to Cheonggyecheon, followed the interesting stream to Dongdaemun. Back at Seoul Sation Lotte mart for Nagasaki seafood noodle and spicy pork soup.
